Zydol Tablets / Capsules

Zydol is used to treat pain and it is a brand of the medication tramadol. Tramadol is a powerful opioid painkiller which is used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain, for example after surgery, or for long term conditions such as peripheral neuropathy. Tramadol is related to morphine and much stronger than other painkillers in the UK. Living with pain can severely affect a person's quality of life and make it difficult to keep up with things at work and at home. Over time it can reduce your quality of life and overall well-being, and simple things become difficult such as moving around or doing tasks like your grocery shopping or cleaning. It can also make it difficult to socialise, partly because it is painful to get up and about, and partly because pain makes it difficult to concentrate on anything else and keep up with conversations. Medications such as Zydol can help to effectively manage your symptoms, allowing you to return to normality, get your daily tasks done and socialise with your friends again.

What is Zydol Used for?

Zydol is primarily used to treat pain, or disorders which have pain as a significant symptom. It can be used to treat acute pain, for example after injury or having surgery, or it can be used to manage chronic pain which stems from a disorder such as peripheral neuropathy or fibromyalgia. As it is such a strong medication it is usually used when other painkiller tablets or pain management methods have not worked or are not working well enough on their own. Medications like tramadol are typically used to treat complex disorders which often have co-morbidities which need to be managed, which means it can be difficult to keep on top of all the symptoms. Painkillers are an effective way of eliminating one of the many symptoms you are likely to be dealing with.

How Do Zydol Tablets Work?

Zydol is an opioid medication which binds to opiate, serotonin, and noradrenalin receptors in the brain. They then reduce certain signals within the central nervous system (CNS) which reduce the sensation of pain and can make you feel happy or give you a sense of euphoria. This euphoric feeling is why some people may take it for longer than prescribed, so it is important that you only take it for 3 weeks or less if you are taking it every day, unless you have been told by your doctor to take it for longer. As tramadol not only binds to opiate receptors, but inhibits the reuptake of the neurotransmitter's serotonin and noradrenaline, it has anxiolytic properties as well as pain reduction effects.

How Long Does Zydol Last?

Almost 100% of Zydol is absorbed rapidly and it has a good bioavailability of 70%. As it is absorbed so quickly, you should start to feel the effects after about 30 to 60 minutes. It has an elimination half-life of 6 to 7 hours, so if you are taking it long term for chronic pain, it attains and stays at a steady concentration upon redosing.

Zydol Dosage Guide (50 mg / 100 mg)

Zydol comes in either tablet or capsule form and is available in doses of 50 mg and 100 mg. Dosage will vary from person to person depending on factors such as body mass index (BMI), metabolism, and the severity of symptoms. The medication should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and you should make sure you space the doses evenly throughout the day. It is important not to crush or chew the medication as this will alter how quickly it is absorbed which can lead to an overdose. If you forget to take a tablet at your usual time, wait until the next dose is due and never take an additional tablet to make up for the forgotten one as this can be dangerous.

Zydol Side Effects (50 mg / 100 mg)

Before deciding whether to buy tramadol 50 mg you should be aware of any side effects associated with the medication. Not everybody experiences side effects, and they are usually mild for those that do and resolve on their own. Common side effects associated with Zydol include:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Feeling dizzy or drowsy
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Headaches

These can be mitigated to some degree by keeping hydrated and using an anti-emetic or antihistamine for nausea. If you feel dizzy or drowsy, do not drive or use machinery. Serious side effects are rare, but if you experience any of the following, call your GP or go to A&E immediately:

  • Hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Seizures
  • Not being able to urinate

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction, which again is extremely rare. This is characterized by swelling of the lips and face, a rash on the face and neck, and difficulty breathing. You should go to A&E or call 999 immediately if you experience anaphylaxis.

Is Zydol Safe for Everyone?

Zydol is safe for most people over the age of 18. However, if you have any of the following symptoms or conditions you should talk to your GP before taking it:

  • Had an allergic reaction to tramadol in the past
  • Have addition problems
  • Have liver or kidney problems
  • Have breathing problems or sleep apnoea
  • Have epilepsy
  • Have had a head injury
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
